Acrylic Collage on Canvas
Colette Standish's artwork presents the tensions that exist between opposites, centering around masculine and feminine, animus and anima. She uses the body as a point of reference, using blank space in the human form to evoke a spiritual presence and present the plane where tensions reside, at times invisible to the human eye. Her interactions with opposing forces cause her images to fragment offering a perceived balance and harmony of tension and the resulting discomfort.

Artist: Jason Wilson
Thirty-five years ago, a young boy watched his Native American grandmother design, assemble and sew his family’s quilts. Today, contemporary Perceptual artist, Jason Wilson, influenced by his grandmother’s quilts, gives new life to old concepts.
His designs are about building the painting as much as painting the painting...involving hours of construction.
Perceptual Art asks its audience to visually or emotionally interact with the design. Some Perceptual Art appears to shimmer and shift while other designs may, for example, provide a sense of serenity and grace. By bringing his designs to life, Jason Wilson hopes to delight and inspire others.

Artist Statement:
I draw inspiration from a range of sources, such as archaeology, artifacts, geology, landscape and plant matter.
My process comprises of an eclectic mix of adding and subtracting: controlling the medium yet allowing the accidental. I work in layers, creating then obscuring , revealing then hiding.
Painting surfaces are constantly multi-layered and renewed. This process-orientated method of constant re- defining allows a subject’s essence to reveal itself in its own time.

“I try to find a correlation between the present day and history, between reality and imagination, simplicity and complexity, order and chaos, science and art. On the canvas inside of the story, geometric shapes dance with organic ones creating a chaotic harmony." - Vassia Alaykova

“For me, the impact of human influence is most easily recognized from above, and it's often an impressive sight. In this case, crowds of people from a crowded New York City crowd into a getaway vessel to reflect on life as they pass by the beautiful skyline. Or maybe just to party.” – Kendall Starr
Flawless in creative execution, Kendall Starr began his career in photography as a commercial pilot towing banners in Miami, Florida. His keen eye for design, pattern and passion for the aerial aesthetic brought to life images grander than life that freeze moments from heights and on the ground rich in perspective and design.

"Dancescape" is a mixed media collage that was inspired by the grace, intricacy, and near perfection of the ballet dancer. Unlike, the trained ballerina to follow intricate, choreograhic patterns, the painting upholds no pattern; it boasts no set path. Rather, it's structured inconsistencies reveal a choatic frenzy often present within a more primitive form of dance.

From the Artist:
My “Material Matters” series examines the challenges of organizing textile fabrics into coherent collaged works. It plays against the usual association of fabrics as being pliable and focuses on their ability to form collages out of a multitude of prints and to create their own structural formations. It is a study of color, pattern and form using a non-traditional medium (fabric and stitching) to create fine art wall reliefs. The various printed and solid fabrics are the canvases with which I collage forms in a formal process to create a composition. The stitching helps to interconnect the forms by creating texture and marks on my "canvas"--similar to a painter using brush strokes to create marks in their paintings.
Dimensions: 32"W X 20"H |
Biography and Story
"Thread, fabrics and yarn are my paints. Instead of brushstrokes, I stitch. My stitching is done primarily via sewing machine – an instrument emblematic of the female role. I see strength and power in the stitch and feel its history; it is a way of leaving a print to be remembered, beckoning you to take a second look. The sewing machine is transformed into an artistic tool that I use to create contemporary art."
Sandra’s eye and tactile sense were initially developed through exposure to the fabrics printed by her parents’ company, Alexander Henry Fabrics, Inc. She maintained her involvement in her parents’ efforts while taking art classes at Pomona College, attending USC Law School and during her employment at major corporations and law firms. She has taken art classes at Otis College of Art and Design, UCLA Extension, and Brentwood Art Center.

Ant Pearce is an emerging British artist. He comes from a background in biochemistry and IT. He worked in the City of London as a senior business consultant for more than ten years before embarking on a life within the visual arts. After completing an intensive course at Central Saint Martins School of Art and Design, he enrolled in 2010 on the MA Visual Arts course at Camberwell College of Arts, graduating with Merit in late 2012. He has shown work in London and the UK, Europe and the US. His practice is based in London.
His practice focuses on the concept that man is condemned to exist imprisoned. Through his work he explores the fragility of life, drawing on human psychology. Influenced by Freud’s theories and the writings and philosophies of Dostoyevsky, Kafka and Camus, his work alludes to the idea that the omnipresent external authority is what brings about man’s aberrant destructive behaviours.
